Furnished Apartments with Secure Parking in Nairobi

Street parking has effectively disappeared from Kilimani, Westlands and Parklands, and Nairobi County charges for on-street bays where they exist. A dedicated, controlled bay is therefore both a security question and a daily-logistics one, most vehicle-related incidents tenants report happen in uncontrolled parking, not on the road.

What to ask the landlord

Confirm how many bays come with the unit, whether they are allocated or first-come, and whether they are in a controlled basement or on an open forecourt. Ask about visitor parking, because in dense Kilimani and Westlands blocks it is often nonexistent and your guests will end up on the street. Check the ramp gradient and turning circle if you drive anything large.

Supply and pricing across Nairobi

One allocated bay per unit is the norm across furnished stock in the main suburbs; two bays are standard in Karen, Runda and Muthaiga compounds and negotiable in three-bedroom apartments elsewhere. Visitor parking is the genuine scarcity in Kilimani and Westlands.

Does a Nairobi apartment come with parking?

Almost always one allocated bay in the main suburbs. Two bays are standard in Karen and Runda compounds and negotiable elsewhere.

Is parking charged separately?

Sometimes, in dense Westlands and Upper Hill towers where bays are scarce. Expect a monthly figure on top of rent if a second bay is available at all.

Where do visitors park?

This is the weak point in Kilimani and Westlands. Ask specifically about visitor bays and whether the guard will admit a guest vehicle overnight.

Is basement parking safe?

With controlled access and CCTV, yes, and it is the format most claims data would favour. Check lighting and whether the barrier is manned after hours.

Can I charge an electric vehicle?

A handful of newer Westlands, Riverside and Two Rivers-area developments have charge points. Elsewhere you will need written landlord consent to install one.
